Ms. Mellie aka Melony McGant...
For the
past five years Ms. Mellie has been on a journey of remembering
LOVE. Recently she has presented her healing poetry to audiences of
the Artists Forum, Marble Collegiate Church and the NYU Muslim
Students Association in response to Septemper 11th and a call for
world wide peace and LOVE.
Ms. Mellie has frequently appeared in Central Park doing a musical
storytime for babies or toddlers and is known well at various branches
of the Brooklyn and Queens Public Libraries where she and school
age children have interacted in creative storytimes which focus on LOVE
& healing.
Her recent novel "Sunshine & Olivier: A Parable Of Love" is a
new age saga about the discovery of young love, shame/secrets passed
through families generation after generation. The book is available
through Barnes & Noble. Currently Ms. Mellie is completing a
poetry collection, working a second novel and has three childrenâs stories
ready for publication. She also writes a monthly inspirational article
available to internet subscribers internationally.
For more than two years, Ms. Mellie was the resident storyteller at
Barnes & Noble Lincoln Triangle in New York City where she conducted
weekly storytimes for children. While there she appeared on national
television during the Harry Potter book release celebration and was
a part of the Lincoln Triangle Winter's Eve Celebration 2000.
Previous to living in New York City, she spent time in Phoenix, Arizona
and Santa Fe, New Mexico. While in Santa Fe, in 1997 her poetrydrama
with song "Love Like You've Never Been Hurt" was showcased at
the Robins Hyder Gallery and featured in the Santa Fe New
Mexican.
Melony McGant, the marketing professional is a native of Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania and graduated from Marshall University in West Virginia.
While living in Pittsburgh she owned and operated a cause marketing
firm specializing in non profits and social service organizations and
was also columnist for the New Pittsburgh Courier. She is also
a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Melony has sat on many boards including Big Brothers And Sisters
Of Greater Pittsburgh and Aaron Davis Hall in New York City.
Her work with the Pittsburgh Public Schools Multicultural Education
Campaign won the Gold Medallion Award from the National School
Educators Association and she has had recognition from several organizations
including New Mexico Not Even One, a teen suicide prevention
program sponsored by the Carter Center.
