Jamaal As-Salaam
Jamaal
As-Salaam is first a poet, then a playwright, next an actor, a
director, producer, photographer, videographer, and writer. He
has lived the past 15 years in Los Angeles, and has recently returned
to Colorado and plans to move to San Francisco. His efforts are
documented and his accomplishments are recognized. His poem "Conjecture"
was awarded the Editor's Choice in the National Poetry Anthology
of 1996. He has over 10 chapbooks soon to be available through
his employer Mighty
Words.com, a distributor of e-books. His banner
company Lightland Publishing Company will be his publisher.
Black Love edited by Dr, Francis Barnes published
his poem "Mieko" dedicated to his oldest daughter in 1999.
Jamaal was listed in Who's Who among Black Playwrights
in 1984, and is listed in Marquis's Who's Who in the World/America
in 2000/2001/2002. He is also recognized in IBC's 2000 Outstanding
Intellectual's of the 20th & 21st Century.
He is a notable person whose talents stretch across several artistic
and professional disciplines. Such poets as Amiri Baraka, Quincy
Troupe, Ntozake Shange, Simeon Ortiz, and many others have
tutored him. He has slammed and read his poetry for audiences
in Taos, New York City, Denver, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
In 1998 he achieved his Microsoft Certified Professional Certification
after 15 years in the profession from Ednet Career Institute,
Inc. in Woodland Hills, California.
